Last flames of the burning fire had disappeared a long time ago. All that had been left from a huge pile of thick branches was a handful of glowing ash. It was more than a proper moment to start digging a grave, since with the fire gone, bloody pulps, formed from what remained of the two mercenary warriors, were the only thing to occupy Bast’s attention. He shuddered at the thought of touching the bodies and sighed. The perspective was nasty, but still, there were lots of uglier acts folk were willing to commit out of love, people and the Fae as well.  It was always like that and that way the order of things was going to stay till the end of the world. “Which may not take very long to occur”, Bast thought wryly. Events of the previous evening might had been counted his failures, but still, Bast refused to completely let go of a last, tiny piece of hope. Especially that the Chronicler had proved himself to be a much smarter and perhaps a more useful pawn than Bast had initially presumed.  And in the morning, Reshi laughed. Even if for a brief moment, it was enough to make Bast’s heart beat faster.  Fate had purposely put a man named Kvothe on his way. If it  thought it had the right to carelessly toy with the red haired man now, apparently it hadn’t realized how terribly wrong its assumptions were. Bad luck could conspire behind Bast’s back, no problem. That way, it put itself in the best position to kiss his ass. With that thought in mind Bastas, son of Remmen son, Prince of Twillight and the Tewyth Mael, grabbed a shovel and started to dig.
